"Webb28 juli 2013 · Every time you start to wrap the axle it put leverage on the u-bolts and over time they can stretch that far. U-bolts are not hardened steel either and are actually quite soft. You can try to heat them up and tighten them but you may find the threads have stretched too, more of a chance of stripping the nut if so.
