However, I would like him to have some sort of contingency plan. The delay would occur but they would become a zombie as soon as they truly die (If they are still at 0 hp at the end of rage, and have not been healed since FoD "killed" them).

In other words, flip a coin.) and three wins or losses results in death or stabilization at the end of the round. Take so much as 1 damage at 0, and die.
